The COHESION-I Project in collaboration with the NCD Policy Lab organized a panel discussion with Peruvian students in the Health Sciences. During the event COHESION-I researchers shared their experiences addressing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Mozambique, Nepal, and Peru. The event facilitated sharing experiences and country-specific approaches, contributing to a deeper understanding of effective strategies for the prevention and control of NCDs in LMICs.

The conference was held on Wednesday, March 26, as part of a series of events focused on health innovation, organized by CRONICAS Center of Excellence in Chronic Diseases. The event was attended by students in the health sciences (e.g., medicine, public health) and early-career researchers. The discussion focused on chronic disease prevention and intervention strategies, and the content covered topics related to clinical trials and community participation. Senior researchers and medical doctors specializing in non-communicable diseases shared their expertise and perspectives based on their experiences in Mozambique, Nepal and Peru.
Panelists provided key insights on clinical trials for cardiovascular diseases, socio-ecological approaches to address NCDs at the micro, meso, and macro levels. They also emphasized the critical role of community participation in both the development of impactful research projects and the design of public and global health initiatives.
Throughout the event, enriching perspectives on context-specific healthcare approaches, as well as strategies for the prevention and control of NCDs, were shared. The experiences and insights provided by the international and interdisciplinary panel, along with feedback from fellow students, were of great significance for their future practice-oriented and academic journeys.
