The training brought together 34 health workers from the project control communities to strengthen their clinical knowledge and interpersonal skills.

On September 1, 2026, our team in Peru launched a health worker training program on comprehensive care for people with hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and neurocysticercosis in primary health care (PHC). This training was originally offered to health workers from the intervention communities, but on this occasion, because the project interventions have concluded, it was directed to health workers from control sites. A total of 34 participants came from four non-intervention local health facilities and three referral centers in northern Peru.

Held in a region of Piura, the program was designed as a blended learning experience, combining intensive in-person training with asynchronous learning through the distance education platform of Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH). The online component began on September 1, followed by the in-person sessions on September 21 and 22.

The training is scheduled to conclude on November 30, following two virtual sessions planned for October and November. Participants will also submit a final assignment summarizing what they learned throughout the program.

Participants received the communication materials (e.g., posters, patient-health worker communication cards) and a USB with health education audio-based messages that were delivered in the intervention sites. These resources are to be used at the PHC level and higher-level health facilities.

We extend our thanks to all participants, trainers, and local health authorities for their engagement throughout the training.
